I stopped by the library tonight to return some books and pick up some holds. I still have a few books checked out that aren’t ready to be returned yet, so right now I’ve got a total of ten library books at home falling into these categories:
1 memoir
1 true crime
1 sports nonfiction
5 novels
1 “book about books”
1 Young Adult novel
I’m genuinely excited about all of these books, but I’m not sure that I’ll get to all of them before they’re due. I’m about 1/3 of the way through the sports title, and I know I’ll be starting at least one of the other books this weekend as well—I’m usually reading more than one book at a time—but I’m not sure which one yet.
I know that some people are pretty devoted to reading books in one or two genres, but I’ve never been that way. I go in spurts sometimes, such as reading a bunch of biographies in a row, or reading everything I can find by a particular author, but I’m usually reading a lot of books in a pretty big variety of genres.
How about you? Do you have variety in your reading life, or do you tend to stick to one or two types of books? Have you read any of these books? Please share!

I haven’t read any of the above books. Usually I read fantasy and science fiction, but occasionally I branch out into mystery, thriller, historical romance, young adult, and biography.

I’m trying to read more YA this year. I also like thrillers, and I’ve got a bunch of biographies on my TBR shelf that I really want to get to soon.

I suppose I stick to one or two types. Mostly adventure books (which was my A post). Science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romantic suspense, like that.

I’ve never read much adventure fiction, but I was into a big nonfiction adventure phase awhile ago–true accounts of climbing Mount Everest, surviving shipwrecks, blizzards, etc.

I’m so jealous of you and your ability to read so many different genres and types of books! I’m not all that adventurous myself, and for the past few years I’ve been mostly reading Middle Grade and Fantasy books. I do branch out from time to time, but that’s what I always come back to. I’m hoping to find a way to change that sometime soon. *fingers crossed*

Sometimes it’s hard to branch out to a different genre because you keep finding more and more books in the genres you prefer! One of my reading goals for this year was to explore more middle grade and Young Adult books–there are so many great authors out there doing wonderful things with those genres. So I was glad to pick up “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story” since it’s a YA book I heard about from one of my blogging buddies.

Great book haul! I definitely have an eclectic reading style-right now I’m reading a zombie western, the book before that was a contemporary romance, and the book before that was a classic (in the sci-fi genre) 🙂

What a haul! Your library lets you have ten at a time? I think my library has a limit of three. But it’s been awhile since I’ve borrowed a physical book…

Actually . . . my library has no formal limit on the number of titles you can check out at a time!

I haven’t read any of those titles. It’s great that you vary your reading. Makes it more interesting to mix it up, I think. I tend to read psychological suspense, mysteries, romance, and young adult with an occasional biography or book on writing.

I agree–I think it’s more fun to mix it up a bit, and doing so tends to keep me from getting into the dreaded reading slump.
