Musing Mondays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB that asks you to muse about one of several “bookish” questions . . . or, you can just ramble on about anything you like that pertains to books! You can join in by clicking the graphic above. Go ahead–it’s fun!

This week I’m musing about a New York City attraction that must have been designed with ME in mind!

I’m not big on staying at hotels—after a couple of nights, the novelty wears off and I start to miss my own bed, my own pillow, and my own shower. However, I’ve found a hotel that I think I would love!

library 3The Library Hotel, located in Manhattan, sounds like a dream destination for any true booklover! The concept is simple and wonderful—each of the ten hotel floors is dedicated to one of the ten major categories of the Dewey Decimal System! Each of these floors houses six guestrooms—and each room is decorated with books and art corresponding to a specific topic within its main Dewey category!

For example—the 7th floor  is designated as The Arts (Dewey classification–700s). On this floor you’ll find the following six themed rooms: Fashion Design, Music, Photography, Performing Arts, Paintings, and Architecture. Similar decorating themes are employed throughout the other floors, depending on the assigned Dewey category. The hotel boasts a total of over 6,000 books available for guests to enjoy, and there’s also the Bookmarks rooftop lounge with nightly literary inspired cocktails. Rooms range from quite tiny to large suites. Theme packages are also available for very special stays.

library 2As an unapologetic book geek, I cannot even begin to express how much I adore this idea! Billed as a “luxury hotel”, the rates are correspondingly high, but what a way for any self-respecting booklover to splurge! I’ve only been to New York City once, about ten years ago—but I’ve always wanted to go back. If I ever get the chance to return, I’d love to treat myself by spending at least one night at The Library Hotel!

How about you? Are there any bookish destinations that you dream of visiting? Please share!

Disclaimer—I have no affiliation with The Library Hotel.

I love books, reading, writing, cooking, eating, reading while eating, and sharing thoughts about all of the above–plus a bit more! I usually post about topics relating to books and literacy during the week, and then participate in a variety of non-bookish memes on the weekend. Please feel free to join in! Some random things about me– –I have multiple bookshelves in every room of my home except the bathroom. They’re all filled to bursting. They help to make my house my home. –I have two cats who I love dearly, but who I definitely do NOT dress in human clothing. Ever. –I’ve never had a cavity. –I make a mean spaghetti sauce. –I’m a newcomer to yoga and I love it. –My day is not complete without a little chocolate.

    • Wouldn’t you have loved to be in on the initial planning meeting for this? Hotel Guy #1: “So I’ve got this idea. . . it may sound a little crazy . . .” Hotel Guy #2: “You want to do WHAT????”

  5. What fun! I love that they are within walking distance of the New York Public Library, too. Gotta visit the lions!
