An incredibly awesome customer service experience!

Everyone (me included) always complains about poor customer service. However, I had an excellent customer service experience just this morning!

A bit of background—in my part of the world, we are getting slammed with incredibly frigid temperatures this week—and next week is supposed to be even worse. On Monday, the HIGH temperature is predicted to be -9 degrees F.

Very early this morning I woke up to a cold house—and a cranky furnace. I dug out my manual, tried to do what it said—no results. This morning I made a service call and resigned myself to a big weekend repair bill.

Instead—a technician called me back, asked me some questions, and then said “Do you want to save yourself $200?” Of course, I said “Sure!” He then VERY patiently walked me through what to do—and I now have heat again—with NO repair bill!

I’ll be sending an email to the company’s headquarters today, mentioning this technician by name. I couldn’t be happier—and from now on the only company I’ll be calling for any heating/cooling issues is T R Miller Heating and Cooling in the Chicago area!

I’m planning on spending the weekend staying warm, preparing for more snow later today and tomorrow, and cooking some sort of comfort food—maybe some nice homemade soup. How about you? What’s on your agenda for the weekend? Please share!

I love books, reading, writing, cooking, eating, reading while eating, and sharing thoughts about all of the above–plus a bit more! I usually post about topics relating to books and literacy during the week, and then participate in a variety of non-bookish memes on the weekend. Please feel free to join in! Some random things about me– –I have multiple bookshelves in every room of my home except the bathroom. They’re all filled to bursting. They help to make my house my home. –I have two cats who I love dearly, but who I definitely do NOT dress in human clothing. Ever. –I’ve never had a cavity. –I make a mean spaghetti sauce. –I’m a newcomer to yoga and I love it. –My day is not complete without a little chocolate.

  1. Lucky you! Best thing ever.

  2. Wow, impressive! I love companies who provide service like this and it definitely makes me a return customer! Glad you have heat again…I thought it was cold here last night and it was only in the 30s! 🙂 But, we Californians have a little different conception of cold than you all in Chicago! 🙂

  3. The temperatures here in the Great White North have been below zero for a couple of weeks, isn’t it awful when the heat is spotty? So glad you got a wonderful solution to your problem!

  4. I’m glad you have heat again, too. Our low last night was 22 below, so I can certainly empathize with your relief.

You might reconsider emailing HQ, though. It seems like (despite the fact that his actions cemented your patronage for the future), his assistance cost the company the price of a service call. Knowing what I know about the short-sightedness of many corporate executive bean counters, this technician’s actions might cost him dearly.

    • I think it’ll be OK–they are a locally owned business–not national– and have comments about keeping their customers happy in their ads. I know what you mean though–so many companies today are all about making the immediate quick buck.

  5. What a great experience, thank you for sharing! Glad you are staying warm too!

  6. We are in a warm up to -3 C so we stocked up on lots of comfort food. Glad you got a free repair. Definitely worth a commendation.

    • I just got back from the grocery–I have never seen lines that long! But I now have plenty of comfort food on hand and am not planning on leaving the house again until Monday morning! Stay warm!

  7. So happy for you and I’m glad you are warm. We often forget to take the time to compliment good customer service so I commend you for writing to Head Office.

  8. Wow! That is awesome! And good on you, emailing the company to pass on the praise.

My cousin lives in Chicago, and she was sharing with us the graphic of the weather forecast for next week, showing temperatures of -52! I don’t think I could even handle 52, never mind -52! Yikes! Hope you’re able to keep warm and cozy!

  9. Oh yes, DO be sure to let the company know. We’ve been fortunate like that a few times, especially when we were new homeowners. Stay warm and thanks for playing 6WS!
