Going shopping for mums and gourds!

gourdsI don’t do a lot of seasonal  or holiday decorating around the house. I only do the bare minimum even at Christmas. But somehow it just doesn’t feel like Fall to me unless I have a couple of big pots of mums on my front porch and a basket of gourds on my kitchen table. So, at the top of my list of errands for today is to hit the garden center to find some big pots of  bright, beautiful, yellow and orange chrysanthemums–and a bag of the bumpiest, most oddly shaped gourds I can find!

What about you? What do you have planned for your Saturday? Please share!

I love books, reading, writing, cooking, eating, reading while eating, and sharing thoughts about all of the above–plus a bit more! I usually post about topics relating to books and literacy during the week, and then participate in a variety of non-bookish memes on the weekend. Please feel free to join in! Some random things about me– –I have multiple bookshelves in every room of my home except the bathroom. They’re all filled to bursting. They help to make my house my home. –I have two cats who I love dearly, but who I definitely do NOT dress in human clothing. Ever. –I’ve never had a cavity. –I make a mean spaghetti sauce. –I’m a newcomer to yoga and I love it. –My day is not complete without a little chocolate.

  1. What a great idea! And I have just the pots to put the ‘pompoenen’ in (that’s Dutch). Have fun shopping!

  2. I’m not big in seasonal decorating either. Somehow I never seem to make it that far (I do have lovely ideas though ;). I love the mums and gourds though: on the country side here you’ll see them everywhere! My parents have been growing some huge ‘pompoenen’ this year so I could go there and get some 🙂
Enjoy your Autumn and the mums and gourds!!

  3. Fall is my favorite season to decorate for! When my son was young I decorated for every season and holiday. I have been able to stop doing some of the holidays now, but the husband bugs me to do more than I want to do… Wishing you a fun day of pompoenen shopping!

  4. Sounds like a wonderful way to decorate for the season. We’ll need pictures.

  5. Totally agree with you! Nothing expresses fall better!

To celebrate the publication of my memoir, Dangled Carat, I have several giveaways on my blogs – prizes include autographed copies of the book, a ring from Berricle jewelers and a $25 Victoria Secret gift card – I hope you can check it out…

  6. I used to like decorating, but don’t feel like I have time right now. We will be doing our grocery shopping today, and will later take pictures of our son and his girlfriend for Homecoming.

  7. I haven’t embraced Autumn that much yet, but it surely will look pretty. I have a few white chrysanths on the hearth, with a splash of red 🙂

  8. I have 3 baby quilts to put the binding on and then they will be done! Cheers and have a lovely weekend!

  9. That sounds great. You make me want to do the same. Autumn is not obvious in Arizona!

  10. Great post as always! Because I love your blog I have nominated you for a Shine On Award see the link here: http://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/the-shine-on-award/
